Combining CBT and SFT

I work as an Integrative Counsellor, combining both Solution Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

Both well-established therapy techniques share certain basic similarities. Broadly speaking, both forms of therapy focus on helping the client identify solutions while decreasing the emphasis on negative aspects of the client’s life. By combining aspects of both therapies, a powerful tool is created to help clients achieve their goals.

Solution Focused Therapy is a form of talk therapy, which emphasizes the importance of the present and the future rather than dwelling on the past, encouraging clients to focus on creating new life goals. I support my clients in these new goals, for example by offering practical guidance in developing more supportive social networks or relaxation techniques. Important life changes that can be achieved through effective Solution Focused Therapy include higher self-confidence and stronger relationships.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy directly facilitates changes in the negative thinking patterns that may lead to a pre-occupation with past problems so by combining both CBT and SFT, . clients can learn to focus on the positive elements of their life while gaining the new confidence to achieve their life goals.

With the combination of CBT and Solution Focused Therapy, we can both discover how you are resilient and stronger than you think, as well as what patterns hold you back from having a good life.
